Parish History
St. Michael's was canonically established in 1890 according to the Archdiocese of Washington's parish records. The parish grew out of the Catholic community of German and other settlers of the Ridge area of St. Mary's County and has continued to serve southern Maryland for more than 130 years. The current parish website does not publish a detailed founding-era narrative; the parish history that appears at saintmichaelridge.org refers to a separate St. Michael's parish in Defiance County, Ohio, and should not be confused with Ridge, Maryland.
