About St. Michael · Rexmere, Louisiana
St. Michael Church is a small Catholic parish in the rural community of Rexmere, Louisiana, located in the Avoyelles Deanery of the Diocese of Alexandria. Established in 1964 with Fr. Theodore Leliveld as its first pastor, it has long shared pastoral care with neighboring St. Peter Church in Bordelonville — sharing a pastor, office staff, and a P.O. Box mailing address. Sunday Mass is celebrated at 8:00 am with confessions beforehand, and the parish is staffed by a Missionary of St. Francis de Sales (MSFS) pastor. As part of the Diocese of Alexandria's "Together as One Church" pastoral realignment, St. Michael is being amalgamated into St. Peter, Bordelonville, and will no longer hold regular weekly Masses but remains available for baptisms, funerals, and the annual patron feast day Mass on September 29.

Why belong here
St. Michael offers a small, family-sized Catholic community in the rural Rexmere/Bordelonville area of Avoyelles Parish, with a single Sunday Mass that keeps the parish tight-knit and familiar. Worshippers benefit from being part of a shared pastorate with neighboring St. Peter Church in Bordelonville — the same Missionary of St. Francis de Sales (MSFS) priest serves both, and the Religious Education directors coordinate faith formation across the two communities, making it easy for families to plug into sacramental preparation, CCD, and parish life together.

Parish Identity & History
St. Michael Church was established in 1964 as an independent Catholic parish to serve the rural farming community of Rexmere in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana. Its founding pastor was Fr. Theodore Leliveld. Within a decade the parish was reorganized, and in 1975 it became a mission of St. Peter Church in nearby Bordelonville. From that point on, the two parishes have shared a pastor and parish staff. In the 1970s, a major interior renovation of the church was carried out under Fr. James Roy. Today, St. Michael is listed in the Avoyelles Deanery of the Diocese of Alexandria and continues to operate as a smaller worship site within the shared Bordelonville/Rexmere pastorate.
