About St. Michael Parish

St. Michael Catholic Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Louisville located in the Jeffersontown area of Louisville, Kentucky. Founded in 1975, it now serves about 5,125 registered parishioners from its campus at 3705 Stone Lakes Drive. The parish's stated goal has been to maintain a 'small parish feeling' even as the community has grown, with active lay involvement, formation for all ages, and a full sacramental and devotional life. History

St. Michael was carved out of St. Edward Parish to serve the booming Catholic population of the Jeffersontown area. Archbishop Thomas J. McDonough assigned Father Charles Borgia McCauley on June 17, 1975; the first Mass at 'the Catholic Chapel' was offered November 30, 1975, and the canonical decree establishing the parish followed in 1976. An eight-acre donation enabled the current campus, with groundbreaking on August 12, 1979 and the first Mass in the new church on November 8, 1980. The Family Life Center was dedicated by Archbishop Thomas C. Kelly, O.P. on April 26, 1992; a school opened in 1997 (first 8th-grade class graduated 2005); a new lifelong learning center was built in 1998; the parish community center was completed in 2006; and a new, larger worship space was dedicated on June 16, 2013.

Faith Formation — OCIA (Becoming Catholic)

St. Michael runs the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA, formerly RCIA) for adults exploring the Catholic faith. The process is coordinated by Pastoral Associate George Kaissieh and follows the four traditional stages: Precatechumenate (Inquiry), Catechumenate, Purification and Enlightenment (during Lent), and Mystagogy (post-Easter). It serves the unbaptized, baptized Christians seeking full communion, and uncatechized Catholics wishing to complete initiation.

Religious Education & Youth Ministry

Faith formation for children and teens is coordinated by Stacey O'Bryan, Director of Religious Education, and Angie Embry, Youth Minister. Youth Ministry programs work together on different projects throughout the year, with a stated purpose of being a ministerial presence for one another and pushing all involved to grow in faith through service.

St. Michael Catholic School

St. Michael Catholic School is a parish K-8 school that has grown out of the original 1997 opening within the Family Life Center (later renamed the St. Michael Life Long Learning Center). The school is recognized as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence (2009) and is supported by an active parish community, a principal, an assistant principal, and a dedicated faculty. Preschool and childcare programs round out the campus's educational offerings.

Outreach & Charity

St. Michael Outreach Ministry helps parishioners live the two greatest commandments — love of God and love of neighbor — by practicing the seven Corporal Works of Mercy through an organized pastoral model. Members seek to serve 'as Jesus served, with an unconditional love to those in need.' Opportunities are designed to fit families and busy schedules, many taking as little as one hour.

Stewardship & Getting Involved

Parishioners are encouraged to get involved through the parish's Stewardship program. The parish runs a Ministry Fair in January each year where interested parishioners can learn about each ministry and sign up in person. Outside the fair, parishioners can request a current ministry list from the Stewardship Committee to find a good fit for their time and talents.
