About St. Michael Mission
St. Michael Church is a mission — that is, a secondary worship site — of Queen of Angels Parish in the Diocese of Scranton. It is located at 322 First Avenue in Jessup, Pennsylvania. The mission continues the Catholic tradition and sacramental life of the former St. Michael the Archangel parish, one of four parishes that came together to form Queen of Angels in 2010.
History of the Parish
St. Michael the Archangel began as an independent Catholic parish serving the immigrant communities of the Lackawanna Valley coal country. In 2010, the Diocese of Scranton's multi-year pastoral study 'Call to Holiness and Mission' led to the merger of Jessup's four Latin Rite parishes — St. James, St. Michael the Archangel, St. Mary of the Assumption, and St. Stanislaus — into the new Queen of Angels Parish.
