The parish traces its roots to 1844, when Fr. Michael Gilbride preached in the Baptist Meeting House. The first Mass was celebrated in 1847, and the first church building was erected in 1851. The parish was formally established in 1867. Over the decades, it has undergone renovations, including a major one in 1905, and has hosted significant events such as the ordination of Francis King in 1917 and a parish mission in 2001. The parish also maintains a cemetery, Irish Hill, established in 1862.
