History of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church
The parish was founded by Ukrainian immigrants in Colchester, Connecticut in 1921. They purchased a house on Pleasant Street, using the ground floor as a chapel and the second floor as the pastor's residence. Originally organized as the Greek Catholic Orthodox Independent Church of St. Mary, the parish joined the Ukrainian Catholic Diocese in 1948. A church featuring a gilded Byzantine cupola was later constructed on Linwood Avenue and served the community until it was destroyed by an explosion on September 10, 2004. The cornerstone for the present church was dedicated on Monday, August 15, 2005 (the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary), and the new St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church at 178 Linwood Avenue was completed in 2006.

Parish Clergy and Staff

The parish has historically been served by bi-ritual deacons with faculties in both the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Stamford and other Eastern and Latin-rite jurisdictions, including the late Deacon Michael Puscas, who was ordained in the Byzantine Catholic Eastern Rite at the Cathedral of St. Patrick in Norwich on June 11, 2005, and who also served the Romanian Catholic Eparchy of Canton and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Norwich.
