St. Mary Parish is a historic Roman Catholic community in Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania, originally established in 1875 to serve the Catholic families of the town and surrounding Jefferson County. For more than a century it operated as an independent parish within the Diocese of Erie before, on December 2, 2023, being merged along with four other DuBois-area parishes into the new Holy Spirit Parish, with St. Catherine of Siena in DuBois designated as the parish church and St. Mary retained as a secondary worship site. Today St. Mary Church continues to host weekday Masses, weddings, funerals, a weekly Tuesday rosary and Sunday-evening bingo in its social hall, keeping its 150-year-old Catholic presence alive in Reynoldsville even as it shares pastoral leadership with the larger Holy Spirit community.

History of St. Mary Parish
Catholic worship in Reynoldsville began in 1871, when Mass was first celebrated in the small Pennsylvania borough and the local Catholic families were cared for by the pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Brookville. By 1875 the community had grown enough to build a church of its own, and Saint Mary Parish was formally established that year. For nearly 150 years the parish served Reynoldsville and the surrounding area as a member of the Diocese of Erie.

Merger into Holy Spirit Parish (2023)
On October 7, 2023, Monsignor Richard Siefer — who had been serving as pastor of five parishes — announced that Bishop Lawrence T. Persico of the Diocese of Erie had approved the merger of those parishes into one new entity. Effective December 2, 2023, the parishes of St. Catherine of Siena (DuBois), Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Sykesville), St. Bernard (Falls Creek), St. Mary (Reynoldsville) and St. Michael the Archangel (DuBois) were joined in an 'extinctive union' into Holy Spirit Parish. St. Catherine was named the parish church; the Sykesville Assumption church was designated a secondary church with mission status (continuing regular Sunday Mass); and St. Mary, St. Bernard and St. Michael the Archangel became secondary churches without mission status, available for weekday Masses, funerals and weddings. Bishop Persico appointed Monsignor Siefer as the first pastor of Holy Spirit Parish, with Fr. Edward Walk as senior associate and Fr. Benjamin Daghir as parochial vicar.

Parish Life and Devotions
Even after the 2023 merger, St. Mary continues to be a gathering place for the Reynoldsville Catholic community. The weekly Reynoldsville Rosary meets in the parish social hall or on the patio (weather permitting) every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., and Sunday evenings bring the parish together for bingo in the social hall — doors open at 4:00 p.m. and games begin at 6:00 p.m. A bereavement support group is also active through the parish, offering help for those grieving the loss of a loved one or coping with divorce.

Faith Formation and Sacramental Preparation
Faith Formation for children and teens across Holy Spirit Parish — which includes St. Mary — is coordinated through the parish's Faith Formation Office. Programs run during the school year and over the summer for children in grades 1 through 8, with Confirmation preparation for 9th-graders. A monthly parent Bible-based education session runs while students attend class, and baptism classes are offered for new parents. Children's Liturgy of the Word is celebrated for preschool and early elementary children during the 9 a.m. Mass.

Clergy and Staff
St. Mary is served by the pastoral team of Holy Spirit Parish. Monsignor Richard Siefer, who has served in the DuBois region since 1991 and is also vicar for the Eastern Vicariate of the Diocese of Erie, is the pastor. He is assisted by Fr. Edward Walk (senior associate), Fr. Benjamin Daghir (parochial vicar, who also serves part-time at DuBois Central Catholic School), and Permanent Deacon Daniel Satterlee, who is assigned specifically to St. Mary Church.

Sacraments
St. Mary Church continues to be available for the celebration of weddings and funerals as a secondary worship site of Holy Spirit Parish, while sacramental preparation (Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Communion, Confirmation) is coordinated through the Faith Formation Office of Holy Spirit Parish. The Sacrament of Penance is offered at St. Mary on Saturday afternoons and on alternate Wednesday evenings before Mass.
