St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church is a parish in Park City, Utah, in the Diocese of Salt Lake City, founded in 1881 by a small group of miners who brought the Eucharist and Catholic faith to the mountains of what was then a booming silver-mining town. Today the parish serves the Wasatch Back community from a modern church built in 1997 at 1505 White Pine Canyon Road, while still maintaining the historic 1884 stone chapel on Park Avenue — Utah's oldest Catholic church — for daily Mass and quiet prayer. The parish also operates St. Lawrence Mission in Heber City and the St. Lawrence Thrift Store, runs a food bank out of the Old Town Chapel, and partners with charitable and artistic programs including regular Utah Symphony performances.

Our History
St. Mary of the Assumption Parish was founded in 1881 by a small group of miners who brought the Eucharist and Catholic faith to the mountains of Park City — three years before the town itself was incorporated. A wood-framed church was built in 1882 but burned the next year; the stone church that replaced it in 1884 still stands today as the Old Town Chapel and is recognized as Utah's oldest Catholic church. The parish survived the closing of the mines, the Great Depression, and a 1950s fire that destroyed its roof — which the unemployed miners themselves rebuilt to keep the parish open. With the arrival of the ski industry in the 1960s, the parish eventually outgrew the Old Town Chapel. In 1991 Jim and Sally Ivers donated land in Park City's entry corridor; the new church was dedicated on August 15, 1997, the Feast of the Assumption, and the Parish Center was added in 2001.

Ministries & Service Opportunities
The parish describes itself as thriving when parishioners serve one another, and publishes a wide catalog of ministries spanning liturgy, charity, formation, and fellowship. Volunteers are needed behind the scenes and at the altar — from making sandwiches for the homeless to serving as Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, or wedding coordinators, or walking with grieving families through the Bereavement Ministry.

Charitable & Community Outreach
The parish's mission statement — 'Bringing the Body and Blood of Christ to the Wasatch Back' — is lived out in both the Church building and Parish Center being utilized by Park City's charitable programs to serve those most in need. St. Mary's runs its own Food Bank out of the Old Town Chapel's social hall, makes sandwiches for local homeless shelters, supports women in crisis pregnancies through the Gabriel Project, brings Communion to those who cannot come to Mass, and even visits the incarcerated through its Jail Ministry. The parish complex also serves as a cultural hub, hosting regular performances by the Utah Symphony.
