Church History

The parish’s history is tied to the growth of Catholicism in eastern Connecticut, fueled by industrial development and waves of immigration — first Irish in the 1840s, then French Canadians, and later Poles and southeastern European immigrants — drawn by jobs in railroads and textile mills. The Catholic Church was officially established in Connecticut in 1829, and by 1835, there were 720 Irish Catholics in the state. The parish itself was established later, with its history tied to the growth of the Catholic population in the region.
