About St. Mary of the Nativity · Marshall, Wisconsin

St. Mary of the Nativity is a Roman Catholic parish church in the village of Marshall, Wisconsin, dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and serving as the Marshall campus of Epiphany of the Lord Parish. Founded in 1908, it was historically part of Holy Family Parish (alongside St. Joseph in Waterloo) before being canonically merged with Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary and St. Albert the Great in Sun Prairie on June 8, 2024 to form Epiphany of the Lord Parish — the first merger to come out of the Diocese of Madison's "Into the Deep" pastoral initiative. The parish falls under the Diocese of Madison, is pastored by Fr. Vince Brewer (installed July 7, 2024 by Bishop Donald J. Hying), and is known for its bilingual liturgical life, all-night First Friday Eucharistic Adoration, and operation of the St. Mary Cemetery.

Why belong here

St. Mary of the Nativity offers a small-town, family-sized Catholic community in the village of Marshall with a lively bilingual liturgical life: a Sunday morning English Mass, a Saturday morning Mass with confessions, a Tuesday evening Mass, and a Friday evening Spanish Mass with bilingual confessions. It is part of the new Epiphany of the Lord Parish, which combines the Marshall and Waterloo communities with two Sun Prairie churches and a parish school, while still preserving a distinct local worship site at 120 S. Beebe Street. The parish is also distinctive for its monthly all-night Eucharistic Adoration on First Fridays and Third Fridays, regular Saturday morning adoration, three Catholic cemeteries (St. Mary, St. Joseph, and Sacred Hearts), numerous outreach ministries, and a vibrant Hispanic community — making it a welcoming place for both longtime farm-family parishioners and newer Spanish-speaking families in the area.

Identity & Parish Family

St. Mary of the Nativity in Marshall is the Marshall campus of Epiphany of the Lord Parish, a four-church Catholic community in the Diocese of Madison formed on June 8, 2024. The parish was created by merging St. Mary of the Nativity (Marshall), St. Joseph (Waterloo), Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary (Sun Prairie), and St. Albert the Great (Sun Prairie). Until 2024, the Marshall church was part of Holy Family Parish together with St. Joseph in Waterloo — the name that still lives on at holyfamily.info. The Marshall campus retains its own regular Mass, Confession, and Adoration schedule, even while sharing one parish staff and one central parish office in Sun Prairie.

Parish Merger into Epiphany of the Lord (2024)

On June 8, 2024, Bishop Donald J. Hying of the Diocese of Madison canonically established Epiphany of the Lord Parish, the first parish merger produced by the diocese's "Into the Deep" pastoral initiative. It united the former Holy Family Parish (St. Mary of the Nativity, Marshall and St. Joseph, Waterloo) with the Sun Prairie churches of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary and St. Albert the Great. Fr. Brewer was installed as founding pastor on July 7, 2024, with Bishop Hying as principal celebrant. The Epiphany Pastorate was chosen as the pilot in part because the four communities were already collaborating under a centralized diocesan business model.

  • Decree: June 8, 2024
  • Fr. Brewer's installation Mass: July 7, 2024, at Sacred Hearts (Sun Prairie)
  • Part of the Diocese of Madison's "Into the Deep" initiative

Hispanic Ministry

St. Mary of the Nativity and the broader Epiphany of the Lord Parish host a vibrant Hispanic community, with a dedicated chaplain, Fr. Manuel Mendez, assigned to the Marshall campus. A Spanish-language Mass is celebrated on Friday evenings, preceded by Eucharistic Adoration and bilingual confessions, and Hispanic Ministry outreach is part of the parish's regular life.

  • Friday 7:00 PM Spanish Mass
  • Friday 6:15 PM bilingual confessions
  • Chaplain: Fr. Manuel Mendez

Cemeteries
