History
Diocesan records list St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception as founded in 1847. The community began as St. Fidelis of Sigmaringen and was later renamed St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception. The original log chapel burned in 1849, a brick church was built in 1851 on land donated by John Waggoner, the priest's house was added in 1855, and by 1884 the church had a chime of bells. It remains the oldest Catholic church in Carroll County.
