St. Mary of the Assumption is a Roman Catholic parish in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, located at 9579 Yankee Road in Springboro, Ohio. The parish traces its origins to 1867–1868 in nearby Franklin, where Irish immigrant families gathered around Nicholas Gough and Bryan Carey to found what became a Warren County landmark parish. In 2016 the parish dedicated an entirely new $7.2 million Gothic-style church building on a 17-acre site overlooking three ponds in Springboro, moving from its century-old home in Franklin and quadrupling seating capacity to about 850. Today St. Mary is part of the St. John Paul II Parish Family, canonically unifying effective July 1, 2026 with Our Lady of Good Hope (Miamisburg) and St. Henry (Dayton), together serving more than 1,400 families.

It blends deep history — German stained glass, historic bells, and statues brought from its 1867-era Franklin roots — with the practical conveniences of a modern campus: a spacious sanctuary seating 850, a Parish Life Center, weekday Masses, daily rosary and Divine Mercy chaplet, and a continuing Wednesday-night community dinner that feeds more than 100 people. As part of the St. John Paul II Parish Family with Our Lady of Good Hope and St. Henry, it offers the resources of three parishes under one pastor, a parish school (Bishop Leibold), and active faith formation for all ages.

History
St. Mary of the Assumption is one of the oldest Catholic parishes in Warren County, Ohio, with roots stretching back to 1854 and a formal founding in 1867 under Archbishop John Purcell. Its story runs from humble beginnings in a room above the Franklin fire department, through a German-and-Irish immigrant parish centered on a 1912 Gothic church, to the dramatic 2016 move into a brand-new $7.2 million church on 17 acres in Springboro.

Outreach & Community Life
St. Mary of the Assumption is known for a long-standing tradition of Wednesday-night community dinners that feed more than 100 people a week. The parish carried this ministry with them from the Franklin church to Springboro, expressing pastor Father Jim Manning's conviction that 'we want to serve all God's people no matter what neighborhood they live in.'

Architecture, Art & Memorials
The 2016 Gothic-style church was designed to evoke the 1912 Franklin church while meeting the needs of a much larger congregation. Several sacred objects from the original parish were carefully moved into the new building, and the historic bells are displayed outdoors as a memorial.

Sacraments
The parish prepares Catholics for and celebrates the full range of the seven sacraments in collaboration with the parish family. Reconciliation is offered weekly on Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon, weekday and Sunday Masses are celebrated daily, and families are invited to contact the parish office for Baptism, Marriage, and Anointing of the Sick.

St. John Paul II Parish Family
As part of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati's 'Beacons of Light' pastoral planning, St. Mary of the Assumption was grouped in 2022 with Our Lady of Good Hope (Miamisburg) and St. Henry (Dayton) under the patronage of St. John Paul II. In 2025 the family announced that, effective July 1, 2026, the three parishes will be canonically unified into a single St. John Paul II Parish. Bishop Leibold Catholic Grade School serves students PS–8 across the family.
