St. Mary of the Assumption is a Roman Catholic parish in Park City, Utah, founded in 1881 by a small group of miners who brought the Eucharist to the mountain mining town three years before Park City was incorporated. It is the oldest Catholic parish in the state and belongs to the Diocese of Salt Lake City. Today the parish serves thousands of parishioners and visitors from its landmark main church on White Pine Canyon Road (built and dedicated in 1997), the historic Old Town Chapel on Park Avenue (Utah's oldest Catholic church, dating to 1884), and the St. Lawrence Mission in Heber City, alongside a thrift store, food bank, and a wide range of faith formation, youth, and outreach ministries.

Our Story & Mission
St. Mary of the Assumption exists to bring 'the world's greatest treasure: the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, the Eucharist, and the Faith, Hope, and Charity that flow from Him' to the mountains of Park City and the wider Wasatch Back. The parish frames its mission around four commitments: evangelize, catechize, give back in Charity, and enrich the community through the Catholic Faith and its intellectual, artistic, and cultural traditions — 'for the salvation of souls, and the Greater Glory of God.'

Our History
The parish's story is one of fire, faith, and resilience. Miners built the first small wood-framed church in 1882; it burned a year later. A new stone church rose in 1884 and still stands as the Old Town Chapel. The 1950s brought another fire that destroyed the roof and much of the interior; with the mines closing, the Bishop planned to close the parish, but unemployed miners rebuilt the roof and saved St. Mary's. The ski industry revived Park City in the 1960s, and by the 1990s the original chapel could no longer hold the growing community. In 1991 Jim and Sally Ivers donated land in Park City's entry corridor; the new church was dedicated August 15, 1997, the feast of the Assumption, and the Parish Center followed in 2001.

St. Mary's Catholic life happens across three sites in two valleys — the main church in Park City's entry corridor, the historic Old Town Chapel in the heart of Park City, and St. Lawrence Mission in Heber City.
St. Mary's Church (Main Church)
Located at 1505 White Pine Canyon Road at Highway 224, St. Mary's Church is a landmark of Park City's entry corridor. Its lofty design and mountain setting is complemented by wonderful views from within the church and Parish Center. Open daily to visit, it offers thousands of parishioners and visitors the sacraments, a peaceful place to pray, and a sanctuary to grow and serve. Mass is offered in English, Spanish, and a rotating Latin Mass whose location and time alternate between the main church and Old Town Chapel (see the live liturgical calendar).

Old Town Chapel
The Old Town Chapel at 121 Park Avenue is Utah's Oldest Catholic Church, built of stone in 1884 after the first parish church burned. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, it served as St. Mary's primary church until 1997. Open daily for all to visit, pray at, and worship, it remains a special and revered establishment of the Old Town community and a precious reminder of the parish's roots.

St. Lawrence Mission, Heber City
St. Lawrence Church at 5 South 100 West in Heber City is a mission of St. Mary's Parish, bringing the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ to the Heber Valley. Its Mass schedule is listed in the parish's liturgy page (see mass_times above).

Kids & Youth Faith Formation
St. Mary's offers full catechetical faith formation from Kindergarten through 9th grade, encouraging enrollment in all nine years of programming. All programming is led by trained volunteers with background checks and Safe Environment training. Classes generally begin in October and run through May. The parish also runs a Young Family Ministry / Children's Liturgy program for parents with younger children at Mass.

The parish serves high schoolers with formation evenings (often Sundays 5:45–6:45 PM followed by a meal) and programs such as 'Endow' / 'Created for Love' — a study of authentic love, true freedom, and the mystery of beauty, grounded in Pope St. John Paul II's 'new feminism' and the feminine genius.
