St. Mary of the Assumption Parish serves the Catholic community of Hull, Massachusetts, a narrow peninsula on the South Shore of Boston Harbor. The parish has worshipped at St. Ann Church (204 Samoset Avenue) since 1995, after three earlier Hull churches were consolidated into one worship site. Since 2019 it has been partnered with St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Cohasset under the Christ by the Sea Collaborative, sharing clergy and staff while remaining a distinct parish of the Archdiocese of Boston. The community gathers for weekend Mass at St. Ann on Saturdays at 4:00 PM and Sundays at 7:00 and 10:00 AM, with weekday Mass on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:00 AM, adoration and reconciliation on selected Mondays, and a yearly St. Mary of the Assumption Festival begun in 2010.

The parish offers weekend Mass in English (Saturday 4:00 PM; Sunday 7:00 & 10:00 AM), weekday Mass on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, monthly adoration and reconciliation on selected Mondays, faith formation for grades 1–5 and 6+, a youth ministry program, and the beloved annual St. Mary of the Assumption Festival each summer. As part of the Christ by the Sea Collaborative with St. Anthony of Padua in Cohasset since 2019, it pairs small-parish warmth with shared resources, a music director, and active deacons, making it an easy place to belong and to get involved.

History of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish
St. Mary of the Assumption Parish traces its roots to 1890, when it was founded as a mission of St. Paul's Parish in Hingham. The original St. Mary of the Assumption Church was built near the Hull Town Hall at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Seaview Avenue. Because Hull is a long peninsula, the parish eventually added two more worship sites so it could serve the whole community: St. Ann Church at Samoset Avenue and A Street (dedicated July 25, 1915) and St. Mary of the Bay Church on Highland Avenue in the Allerton neighborhood (dedicated June 28, 1928). The mission became an independent parish in 1938. St. Ann's was staffed by priests from St. John's Seminary in Brighton from its opening until 1944.

Our Three Historic Churches — and the Path to St. Ann's
For most of its history the parish worshipped in three buildings spread across the peninsula. Falling attendance after new highways made Cape Cod more accessible led to a consolidation in the 1990s: the two outer churches closed in 1994, and after a renovation St. Ann's was rededicated in 1995 as the home of one unified Hull parish. The original St. Mary of the Assumption Church and St. Mary of the Bay Church were both later sold and converted into private residences.

Recent history includes longtime pastor Rev. Joseph M. Mazzone (who founded the St. Mary of the Assumption Festival in 2010), Rev. Mark G. Derrane (administrator around the 2015 anniversaries), and weekend assistant Rev. Edwin D. Condon.

Christ by the Sea Collaborative
In 2019 St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Hull became part of the Christ by the Sea Collaborative with St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Cohasset. The two parishes remain distinct but share pastoral and administrative staff, a Collaborative Pastoral Center at 10 Summer Street in Cohasset, and a unified bulletin. The Collaborative's motto is 'Fidelity to the past, responsibility for the present, hope for the future.' Mass and confession schedules across the two parishes are published together so parishioners can attend at either church.

Faith Formation & Youth Ministry
Faith formation at the Collaborative is organized by grade band. Family Faith Formation serves Grades 1–5, with confirmation preparation for older students offered jointly with the priests. A separate Youth Ministry track covers Grades 6 and up, including Confirmation preparation with the priests.

The St. Mary of the Assumption Festival
Started in 2010 under then-pastor Fr. Joseph M. Mazzone, the annual St. Mary of the Assumption Festival is the parish's signature summer event. It opens with a decorated statue of the Virgin Mary arriving by boat at the A Street Pier in Hull; the statue is then carried in procession up A Street to St. Ann's, with first communicants in their white gowns and confirmation students participating, before Mass and a church-lawn party. In 2015 Cardinal Seán P. O'Malley celebrated the festival Mass as part of the parish's 125th/100th anniversary celebrations, with a petting zoo, music, and an anniversary cake.
