A Brief History of St. Mary's Parish
New Albany's Catholic heritage was enhanced with the completion of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in 1852, followed by St. Mary of the Annunciation in 1858. Holy Trinity, established in 1836, served Irish and French Americans, while St. Mary’s served German-speaking Americans. After Holy Trinity’s 1975 fire, its membership merged with St. Mary’s. The church has undergone major renovations, including 1886 additions, 1902 stone-like treatment, 1920s marble interior, and 2005–2008 exterior restoration with a new copper steeple. The parish is also known for its commitment to integrating English- and Spanish-speaking communities and supporting youth and all age groups.
