History of St. Mary of the Angels
St. Mary of the Angels was dedicated in 1887 and rededicated in 1987 on its hundredth anniversary. Its roots lie in the mission to the Pomo people established by Padre Luciano Osuna and San Francisco diocesan priests from St. Anthony's, Mendocino (1866–1887). The Franciscans of the Santa Barbara Province administered the parish from 1887 to 1893, followed by an extended period of Capuchin (Irish and Our Lady of Angels Province) leadership, including Fr. Berchmans Cantillon OFM Cap. as Superior in 1932. Today it is administered by diocesan priests of the Diocese of Santa Rosa.

Sacraments
The parish celebrates all seven sacraments of the Catholic Church. Each sacrament page on the parish site explains its purpose — Baptism 'washes away Original Sin' and calls the baptized to 'become the light of Christ'; Reconciliation is the place to confess sins 'to the priest who is the presence of God'; Anointing of the Sick celebrates 'God's healing grace when we are seriously ill'; Holy Matrimony is 'a covenant that joins a man and a woman together in Christ'; Holy Orders 'consecrates a man to represent Jesus as minister, leader, and teacher.'

Baptism Preparation
The parish provides a dedicated baptismal preparation program. Parents and godparents must complete all parish requirements; children 0–17 follow the child baptism track while adults 18+ must attend RCIA classes. Godparents must be at least 16 years old, baptized, have received First Communion and Confirmation, and (if married) be married in the Catholic Church.

Confirmation Program
Confirmation is a two-year preparation program open to students in grades 6 through 12. Registration takes place on Saturdays and Sundays in August with a $90 fee. Students must be baptized and have received First Communion, attend Mass weekly, receive Reconciliation, complete all coursework, and attend a mandatory retreat; missing more than three Masses can result in being dropped from the program.

Marriage Preparation
All Marriage preparation at St. Mary of the Angels is handled directly by Parish Staff — there is no rehearsal prior to the wedding, and outside Wedding coordinators or planners are not permitted to operate within the church. The bride and groom are asked to remind everyone in the wedding party to show proper respect while in the sanctuary.

Parish School — St. Mary of the Angels Catholic School
St. Mary of the Angels Catholic School shares the parish campus and mission. According to its own vision statement, the school has 'a commitment to academic excellence rooted in our primary purpose of developing and proclaiming a personal relationship with God,' fostering a community of faith built on reverence for each person's dignity, uniqueness, and self-worth. The school is led by Principal Stephen Hammerle, Vice Principal Jim Caruso, and Pastor Fr. Peter Reddy (who also serves as Director of the Foundation Board).

Corpus Christi Celebration
Each year the parish hosts a major Corpus Christi celebration with the Bishop of Santa Rosa and diocesan priests. The 2:00 PM Holy Mass is followed by an outdoor Eucharistic Procession from the church to St. Mary's School, where decorative altars prepared by ministry members serve as the procession's stopping points. A multicultural food festival follows at 4:00 PM featuring Mexican, American, Filipino, and Indian cuisine. T-shirts, caps, and prayer fans are sold to support church maintenance.

Getting Involved
The parish website invites new members to 'experience the beautiful gift that Jesus has for you' by completing a parish registration form. Volunteer involvement flows through sacramental preparation programs (Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, RCIA), the parish school, the annual Corpus Christi food festival and altar ministries, and the weekly liturgical and devotional life of the parish.
