Our Parish Story
Catholic families settled the Hannah area in the 1870s as the railroad opened northern Michigan to timber and farming. They built and completed the first church in 1885, with altar furnishings arriving about a decade later. The community of Hannah takes its name from the Hannah Lay & Company lumber firm of Perry Hannah. A parish history was compiled by Julia Harrand in 1985, covering the parish's first century. Today the parish continues as a worshipping community and as the home of St. Mary of Hannah Catholic School.

Ministries and Parish Life
Parishioners are invited to serve through a wide range of lay ministries that care for the altar, the church building, the cemetery, the liturgy, newcomers, and the parish's financial life. Adult initiation is supported through OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults), and men of the parish gather with the local Knights of Columbus council.

St. Mary of Hannah Catholic School
St. Mary of Hannah Catholic School is a parish school in rural Grand Traverse County, about 20 minutes south of Traverse City, serving children from Young 5's through 8th grade. Under the motto 'Faith + Family + Fundamentals,' the school offers a Catholic liberal arts curriculum integrated throughout all subjects, weekly Mass for students in Grades K–8, and Eucharistic Adoration for Grades 3–8. Faith Formation and Religious Education

Sacraments

Devotions and Devotional Life
A Eucharistic devotion runs through the parish week. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament follows both Wednesday and Friday morning Masses until 11:00 am, often together with Confession. On the First Saturday of each month, the parish gathers for the Rosary at 8:30 am, then celebrates a 9:00 am Mass — a Marian devotion long kept at Hannah.
