St. Mary Catholic Church is a bilingual (English/Spanish) parish of the Archdiocese of Seattle located at 4200 88th Street NE in Marysville, Washington. Founded in 1901 by Father Paul Gard, it grew out of the missionary work of Father Eugene Casimir Chirouse among the Tulalip Tribes and the early Comeford settlers, with the first Mass celebrated in the Comeford home in 1886. Today the parish serves approximately 1,800 households and, since 2024's Partners in the Gospel restructuring, shares a pastor with three nearby parishes as part of Parish Family 5 in the Snohomish Deanery. The current worship site dates to 1967 and still houses the parish's original 1907 bell donated by James Comeford.

History of St. Mary Parish
St. Mary's Catholic history is rooted in 19th-century Oblate missionary work with the Tulalip Tribes and the early Comeford settlers who founded Marysville. The first Mass in the area was celebrated in the Comeford home in 1886, three years before Washington statehood; land was acquired from Maria Comeford in 1895; and Father Paul Gard officially established the parish in 1901 with nine Catholic families totaling 27 people. The parish built and then outgrew a wood-frame church at Fourth and Delta streets, breaking ground on the present facility at 4200 88th St. NE on December 11, 1966 and dedicating it in September 1967. The original 1907 bell — donated by James Comeford — is still preserved at ground level near today's front entrance.

St. Anne Mission and the Tulalip Connection
The parish's sister Mission, St. Anne's, sits on the Tulalip reservation and preserves a remarkable chain of artifacts from Pacific Northwest Catholic missionary history. Father Chirouse adorned his 1857 log church with a bell and a statue of Our Lady brought from France — the 'French Madonna.' When the original Mission burned in 1902, a young Tulalip student named Emil Williams rushed inside to save the statue, which still adorns the Mission today. The current Mission building was completed in 1904 under Father Paul Gard, who returned the bell and 'French Madonna' to the rebuilt church. The Mission currently has 55 registered families.

Prayer Life and Devotions
Beyond Mass and Adoration, St. Mary sustains a robust devotional schedule. The Rosary is prayed before weekday Masses and on Sundays, with Spanish-language prayer groups (Ministerio Guadalupano & Ministerio Misionero; Santisima Trinidad) leading several weekly rosaries. The Divine Mercy Chaplet is recited after weekday Masses. A bilingual novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help is prayed on Wednesdays, and the Santisima Trinidad Spanish prayer group meets on Friday evenings.

Faith Formation and Sacramental Preparation
St. Mary runs a full catechetical program through its Family of Parishes. Faith Formation Nights meet weekly at St. Cecilia in Stanwood on Wednesdays beginning with a 5:00 pm dinner, experiential learning at 5:30 pm, and a 6:30 pm Mass with youth involvement. Sacramental preparation (Baptism, Confirmation, First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion) is coordinated through the parish office. Marriage preparation uses the 'Witness to Love' program. Adults seeking full initiation or simply wanting to learn more are welcomed through OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults), and parishioners have access to Word on Fire, Formed and a Scripture Study program.

Hispanic Community / Ministerio Hispano
St. Mary is a fully bilingual parish. The Spanish-language Mass on Sundays at 1:00 pm is one of the most visible expressions of that commitment, and the parish also gathers groups such as Juntos en Cristo, the Santisima Trinidad prayer group, the Ministerio Guadalupano and the Ministerio Misionero, and the San José Men's Group, all of which meet regularly for prayer, formation and fellowship. Spanish-speaking members serve as contacts for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul conference (Aldo B.) and find rosters in the bulletin for prayer and formation events.

Youth and Young Adults
Young parishioners have their own dedicated programming. The parish Youth Group meets Fridays at 7 pm in the parish hall, and updates are posted on its dedicated Instagram account (@stmary_catholic_youth). For young adults, the 'Beyond Sunday' group hosts regular Masses and dinners together, plus Friday morning 6 am Holy Hours with Exposition and a last-Thursday-of-the-month 6 pm Mass followed by dinner. Confirmation preparation is coordinated by Guadalupe Jacobo, the parish's Pastoral Assistant for Youth Ministry and Confirmation Preparation.

Outreach and Charity
St. Mary lives out the corporal works of mercy through several organized ministries. Its Society of St. Vincent de Paul parish conference visits the poor and suffering in their homes and provides material assistance in the form of vouchers for rent, utilities, food, prescriptions, and goods/clothing from local SVdP thrift stores. The Knights of Columbus council at the parish supports charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism. The Prayer Shawl Ministry knits and crochets shawls for the seriously ill, and the Parish Garden grows fresh vegetables for the Marysville Food Bank and flowers for the church sanctuary.
