Community and Context: Abram–Perezville
Abram is a small historic settlement in southwestern Hidalgo County, situated southwest of McAllen and west of Mission along Farm Road 1427, about a mile north of the Rio Grande. The community was originally known as Ojo de Agua for the watering hole along the old military road between Fort Brown and Fort Ringgold, and takes its present name from Texas Ranger Abram Dillard, who lived on Ojo de Agua Creek. A post office was granted in 1901 and the railroad arrived a few years later; the community remained tiny through most of the twentieth century before the development of nearby colonias brought rapid growth beginning in the 1970s.
