Parish History

St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Community has been part of Humble since 1911, when it appeared in the Catholic Directory as St. Mary's Mission. The original 1915 church at Avenue F and Higgins Street was later moved and enlarged on the present site on Old Humble Road (now South Houston Avenue). On February 23, 1969, the current church was dedicated and the new school building blessed; the parish hall followed in the 1970s. The parish marked 100 years in Humble in February 2016 with Cardinal Daniel DiNardo concelebrating the anniversary Mass.

Missionary Society of St. Paul

Since 1965 St. Mary Magdalene has been served by the Missionary Society of St. Paul (M.S.P.), a Nigerian-based missionary congregation. Most of the parish's pastors and parochial vicars — including Fr. Felix Ilesanmi Osasona, M.S.P. and the current pastor Fr. Robert Kajoh, M.S.P. — are members of this society. The MSP also runs the Mission Development Office in Houston.

Mass & Worship Schedule

St. Mary Magdalene offers a robust bilingual schedule of Masses in English and Spanish. Weekday Mass is celebrated Monday through Friday at 8:30 AM (English), with an additional Tuesday evening Mass in Spanish at 7:00 PM. The Saturday Vigil is at 5:00 PM (English) and 7:00 PM (Spanish), and Sunday Masses are at 7:30 AM, 9:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM (Spanish) and 5:00 PM (Youth Mass). First Friday and First Saturday devotion Masses are celebrated at 8:30 AM.

Faith Formation

The parish offers faith formation for every age: Elementary Formation (grades 1–5), Youth Ministry (middle and high school), Adult Formation, and the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) for those becoming Catholic or completing their sacraments. RCIA meets Sundays at 12:30 PM in St. Joseph's Hall and Fridays at 7 PM via Skype. Hispanic Ministry provides formation and sacramental preparation for Spanish-speaking parishioners.

St. Mary Magdalene Catholic School

The parish operates St. Mary Magdalene Catholic School (smmcs.org), a pre-K through 8th-grade elementary school located at 530 Ferguson Street in Humble. Music & Liturgy

Music and liturgy are led by a Director of Music & Liturgy and supported by staff pianists. The parish provides music for Sunday and daily Masses in both English and Spanish, and welcomes musicians and cantors to share their gifts.

Social Ministry & Outreach

The Social Ministry is a cornerstone of parish life, providing food distribution, eviction and utility pledge assistance, and resources for parishioners in need. The Social Services Office (281-540-1907) is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Nonperishable food donations can be dropped off at the food pantry during those hours or at the Parish Office during weekday business hours.

Nursery & Welcome

Free nursery care is offered during Sunday Masses at 9 AM, 11 AM and 1 PM for children 3 months to 4 years old, and on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7 PM to 9 PM for children 3 months to 9 years old. The Welcome Ministry staffs a table in the narthex to greet newcomers and distribute welcome packets; new parishioners can also register through the parish office.

Sacraments

St. Mary Magdalene celebrates all seven sacraments. Parents requesting Baptism must call the parish office two months in advance; no baptisms are celebrated during Lent or Advent. Couples seeking Matrimony must contact the parish office at least six months before their desired wedding date. The Anointing of the Sick is available upon request by calling the parish office.
