History
The parish was carved from the southern parts of Immaculate Conception Parish (1904) and Our Lady of Perpetual Help (1892), and took in St. John Mukilteo — already a mission since 1921 — as a satellite. The first Mass of the new parish was celebrated in Madison School on the First Sunday of Advent 1957 with 550 people in attendance. The parish built its permanent home on a 12-acre site on 7th Avenue SE: the ground was blessed in 1959, the first Mass in the new church was offered on August 15, 1960 (Feast of the Assumption), and the church and school were formally dedicated on October 23, 1960.

Faith Formation & OCIA (RCIA)
Adult Faith Formation is coordinated by Maxim Farrell, PA. The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) walks inquirers through the ancient rites of Christian initiation — Period of Inquiry, Catechumenate, Rite of Election, and Mystagogy — culminating in the Easter Vigil.

St. Mary Magdalen School
St. Mary Magdalen School opened with six grades on September 7, 1960, staffed by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. Today it provides a quality Catholic education for students in kindergarten through 8th grade. The school principal is Dr. Bernadine Mahar, Ed.D. ([email protected], 425-353-7559 ext. 100). The school also runs a SCRIP program and is supported by an active Parent Commission.

Outreach & Pastoral Care
The Outreach Ministry coordinates pastoral care for the sick and homebound. An Outreach Minister contacts parishioners who are ill, frail, or homebound to arrange a convenient time for a home visit, and Holy Communion is brought to those who cannot attend Mass.

St. John in Mukilteo has been a Catholic mission since 1921 and has been served by St. Mary Magdalen Parish since the parish's founding in 1957. It continues to offer Sunday Mass at 9:00 am.

Church Renovation (2021)
