Welcome to St. Mary Help of Christians

St. Mary Help of Christians is a Catholic mission church at 8808 4th Street in the small village of Glen Haven, Wisconsin. The mission belongs to the St. Joseph the Worker Pastorate, a family of four Catholic churches in southwest Wisconsin's Grant County: St. Mary (Bloomington), St. Charles Borromeo (Cassville), St. Mary Help of Christians (Glen Haven), and St. John (Patch Grove). The pastorate's website invites visitors to attend Mass and to receive God's mercy in the Sacrament of Confession before Mass, emphasizing the gift of the Holy Eucharist.

St. Joseph the Worker Pastorate

St. Mary Help of Christians is one of four Catholic communities that share clergy, faith formation, and parish life under the St. Joseph the Worker Pastorate in the Diocese of Madison. The pastorate allows the four small rural parishes — Bloomington, Cassville, Glen Haven, and Patch Grove — to share pastoral staff and resources while keeping each church's local identity and Mass schedule intact.

  • St. Mary Church, Bloomington — 535 Congress St., PO Box 35, Bloomington, WI
  • St. Charles Borromeo Church, Cassville — 605 E. Dewey St., PO Box 166, Cassville, WI
  • St. Mary Help of Christians Church, Glen Haven — 8808 4th St., Glen Haven, WI
  • St. John Church, Patch Grove — 231 N. Wyalusing St., Patch Grove, WI

Clergy & Pastoral Staff

The pastorate is served by a parochial administrator and two parochial vicars who collectively care for all four churches. The pastorate office number (608-723-4990) serves as the central point of contact for all sacramental needs, including emergencies.

Sacraments

The pastorate coordinates preparation for the sacraments across all four churches. Families are asked to contact a parish office to schedule baptisms and attend a baptismal preparation session, and to call at least six months before a wedding. The Anointing of the Sick and Last Rites are available on request by calling the pastorate emergency line.

  • Baptism: contact a parish office to schedule at your church and attend baptismal preparation
  • Marriage: call a parish office at least six months in advance; one party must be a practicing Catholic
  • Anointing of the Sick / Last Rites: call 608-723-4990
  • Confession: Saturdays at Glen Haven (7:15–7:45 PM) and at St. Charles, Cassville (3:30–4:15 PM)

Faith Formation & Catholic School

Faith-formation programs and a parish-affiliated Catholic school are offered through the pastorate rather than at each individual church. St. Charles School runs a Montessori Program enrolling students aged 3–6, with wrap-around care available before and after the school day. Registration details for faith formation are published on the pastorate website.

  • St. Charles School Montessori Program — ages 3–6, enrolling for the current school year
  • Wrap-around care available before and after the school day

Parish Events & Community Life

Like many small rural parishes, St. Mary Help of Christians sustains much of its community life through classic parish fundraisers and shared pastorate events. The annual Pork Chop Dinner at the Glen Haven church is a long-running tradition, and the broader St. Joseph the Worker Pastorate hosts gatherings such as the Sunset Cruise from the Cassville Ferry Dock.

  • St. Mary Help of Christians Pork Chop Dinner (annual fundraiser at the Glen Haven church)
