Our History
St. Martin Parish was organized in 1853 after the closure of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Saints Simon and Jude in Blairsville. George Miller, Sr. and Nancy sold land to Bishop Michael O’Connor for $1, and Father Odilo Vandergreen was sent to establish the parish. The church was enlarged and renovated by 1869 and dedicated on August 3, 1869. A painting of St. Martin’s cloak legend was donated in 1934 for the 75th anniversary. St. Joseph Parish began as a mission in 1883 and became its own parish in 1907. The current church building opened in 1959. The parish has historically served Irish immigrants and later Italian immigrants, with facilities including a church, parish hall, and parish center.
