About Our Parish
The parish of St. Martin de Porres was established on July 1, 1990, by Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy. Its first Masses were celebrated at St. Ann Mission, then out of a storefront at the Naranja Shopping Center, until Hurricane Andrew destroyed that space in August 1992. After worshipping in a tent and then in the cafeteria of Leisure City Elementary School, the community moved in December 1994 into two rental trailers on the present twenty-acre campus in southern Miami-Dade County. On May 9, 1999, Archbishop John C. Favalora dedicated the present church and multipurpose building. The parish is described as embodying the universality of the Catholic Church, 'composed of members from a great variety of cultures and nations, united by the same Love and the same evangelizing passion.' Its patron, St. Martin de Porres, is invoked as a model of humble and generous service. The parish office is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
