Parish History
St. Mark was established in 1954 by Archbishop Thomas A. Connolly to serve the growing Catholic population north of Seattle. Founding pastor Father Theodore Sullivan built a church, school, rectory, and convent within eighteen months, and the parish school opened on September 6, 1955, staffed by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. A larger church replaced the original in 1970; the original building now functions as the parish social hall and gym. A school portable added in 1998 houses the library and computer lab.

Since 2024, St. Mark shares pastoral leadership with St. Matthew Parish in Seattle as Parish Family 12 under the Archdiocese's Partners in the Gospel initiative. Father Jacob Maurer — Pastor 2019–2024
Father Jacob Maurer was appointed pastor of St. Mark by Archbishop J. Peter Sartain effective July 1, 2019, succeeding Father Mitchell. He had been ordained on June 13, 2009 — the feast of St. Anthony of Padua — by Archbishop Alexander Brunett for the Archdiocese of Seattle. Before Shoreline he served as parochial vicar in the Tacoma cluster and at St. Michael in Olympia, then as priest-administrator and pastor of Holy Rosary & St. Joseph in Tacoma (2011–2015), and in the Lewis County cluster (2015–2019). Father Maurer departed St. Mark in mid-2024 as Partners in the Gospel took effect.

St. Mark Catholic Classical School
St. Mark Catholic Classical School shares the parish campus and serves preschool through eighth grade. It opened on September 6, 1955 with the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, and continues the charism of that order — making God's goodness known through Christ-centered, affordable Catholic education. The school is accredited by the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) and currently enrolls students from preschool through grade 8. The school principal is Kathryn Palmquist-Keck.

Faith Formation and Sacraments
The Pastoral Assistant for Faith Formation, Anne Lombard, coordinates sacramental preparation for Baptism, First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, Confirmation, Marriage, and Funerals. The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) — the restored catechumenate for adults and older children becoming Catholic — meets on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 PM in the Fireside Room at the parish office.

Parishioners are invited to take on visible service roles at Mass. The parish website lists eight 'Ministry in the Mass' areas, from preparation of the sanctuary and altar linens to proclaiming Scripture, assisting the priest in distributing Holy Communion, leading music, or welcoming the assembly as ushers.
