History
Founded in 1959 as a mission church to meet the pastoral needs of the growing San Angelo area, Saint Margaret’s began with religion classes held in homes due to lack of heating. The church was blessed in 1965 and declared an official parish in 1981. The name 'St. Margaret of Scotland' was chosen by donors and approved by Bishop Thomas J. Drury. The parish has been served by many priests, including Rev. Leo Diersing (assigned 1968) and Msgr. Larry J. Droll (first pastor). Deacons such as Daniel Peña, Fred Green, and Raymond Smith have also served the parish. The current pastor is Rev. Josh Gray, with Deacons Jesse Martinez and John Rodriguez.
Patron Saint
St. Margaret of Scotland was a queen who promoted education, religious reform, and charity. She was known for her piety, austerity, and dedication to serving the poor. She and her husband, King Malcolm, founded several churches and she personally supervised the education of their children. She was known for rising at midnight for Mass and feeding the poor. She died four days after her husband’s death in 1093.
