History
The parish has served the rural Montcalm County area for decades. Its influence extended through local missions, including St. Francis de Sales in Lakeview, which under Fr. Edwin Thome became a mission of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in Edmore. In 2012, responding to demographic change and priest allocation, the Diocese of Grand Rapids merged St. Margaret Mary Alacoque with St. Bernadette of Lourdes of Stanton into a single parish family, with the Edmore church kept active as a worship site.

Parish Identity
The parish takes its name from St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647–1690), the French Visitandine nun to whom Jesus revealed the devotion to the Sacred Heart. Her feast day is celebrated on October 16.
