About St. Luke the Evangelist Parish

St. Luke the Evangelist Parish is a Roman Catholic community of the Diocese of Manchester, serving the towns of Plaistow and Newton in southern New Hampshire. The parish was created in 2007 through the union of two predecessor parishes — Holy Angels in Plaistow and Mary, Mother of the Church in Newton — and operates across both of their former worship sites. The main parish office and Holy Angels Church are located at 8 Atkinson Depot Road in Plaistow, while Mary, Mother of the Church remains an active worship site at 12 Amesbury Road in Newton. The parish belongs to the Rockingham Deanery of the Diocese of Manchester.

History of the Parish

In 2007 the Diocese of Manchester issued a decree merging Mary, Mother of the Church Parish in Newton with Holy Angels Parish in Plaistow, forming the new St. Luke the Evangelist Parish. The merger combined two worshipping communities with deep roots in Rockingham County into one parish family under the patronage of St. Luke the Evangelist. The Plaistow church (Holy Angels) became the main church and the location of the parish office, while the Newton church (Mary, Mother of the Church) continued as a secondary worship site, retaining its identity within the unified parish. Since 2007, St. Luke's has continued the liturgical, sacramental, and educational ministry of its two founding parishes.
