Parish History
From the first Mass in private homes in 1860, through the establishment of a mission in 1902, to parish status in 1947, St. Luke has grown alongside the city of Irving. The parish has worshipped in four successive buildings and been served by a long line of pastors. On April 10, 1988 the State of Texas dedicated an official Historical Marker recognizing St. Luke's role in the spiritual and civic life of Irving.

Architecture & Buildings
The parish has worshipped in three successive churches before its present home. The current church, designed by architect Robert S. Allan and dedicated on February 14, 1988, features a wood-ceilinged nave dominated by a striking red granite altar, with a 40-foot roof supported by concrete columns. The third (1954) church was a contemporary design of buff-colored brick with cast-stone and redwood trim.
Sacraments
St. Luke prepares and welcomes Catholics for all seven sacraments. Baptisms require parents or guardians to register in person, completion of a baptismal preparation class, and (for families outside the Diocese of Dallas) a Letter of Permission from their home parish. The parish also coordinates First Communion, Confirmation, Weddings, Quinceañeras, and visits to the sick and homebound.

Among the parish's groups are the Coro Ángeles Iluminados and Coro Arcoíris — Spanish-language choirs that serve the many Spanish Masses each weekend — alongside other liturgical ministries that support the parish's eight weekend Masses in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
