St. Luke Parish is a small, rural Catholic community in Hopkinton, Iowa, part of the Archdiocese of Dubuque. Founded in 1922 by German and Irish immigrant families, it began as a mission of Immaculate Conception Parish in Sand Springs and has served the Hopkinton area for over a century. Since July 2016 it has been linked with Sacred Heart Parish in Monticello, sharing a pastor and many ministries under the 'Sacred Heart & St. Luke' pastorate. History of St. Luke Parish
St. Luke Parish was founded in 1922 by German and Irish immigrants as a mission of Immaculate Conception Parish in Sand Springs under Rev. Francis L. Schuh. The first Mass was offered on November 22, 1922 in the basement of the Phillips Hotel; Archbishop James J. Keane preached to twelve founding families. A frame church was begun with the cornerstone laid July 8, 1923, and dedicated to St. Luke on October 18, 1923, with stained glass and altar pieces gathered from the Buffalo Church near Prairieburg, the Franciscan Sisters of Dubuque, and St. Mary, Dubuque. The present larger church was built under the pastorship of Rev. Wilfred C. Johannes (pastor from 1982) and dedicated October 28, 1984.

Religious Education & Sacraments
Faith formation across the linked parishes uses the 'Alive in Christ' catechetical series, approved for use in the Archdiocese of Dubuque, and is designed to form Catholic identity and lead children and families into discipleship. Sacramental preparation includes Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation (a Confirmation was celebrated at St. Luke on February 11, 2018 with Father Baldwin officiating), Marriage, and Reconciliation. Baptisms and weddings are scheduled by calling the parish office.
