History
Established in 1982, St. Luke has long been closely tied to the Salve Regina Newman Center at nearby Eureka College. When the Diocese of Peoria opened the Newman Center in 2002 (Father Gary Caster as first chaplain), it gave the small Catholic student population a pastoral home — and since 2008 St. Luke's pastor has also served as the Newman chaplain. In May 2024 the Diocese announced a sweeping restructuring that will eventually merge St. Luke with St. Mary (Metamora) and St. Joseph (Roanoke).

St. Luke is currently pastored by Father Ryan Mattingly, who also serves as Pastor of St. Joseph (Roanoke) and Chaplain/Director of the Salve Regina Newman Center. He was appointed Administrator in 2021 and Pastor in 2022. His predecessor, Father Eugene A. Radosevich, served as pastor of St. Luke and chaplain of the Newman Center from 2008 and is listed by the Diocese of Peoria as Pastor Emeritus of St. Luke.

Salve Regina Newman Center & Campus Ministry
The Salve Regina Newman Center, located in a two-story house across the street from Vennum-Binkley Hall at Eureka College, has been the Diocese of Peoria's Catholic campus ministry at the college since 2002. With about 700 students total and roughly 123 Catholics, much of the ministry revolves around personal encounters — Father Radosevich has called it 'confession ministry.' St. Luke parishioners share both Mass schedule and meals with the students, and students are invited to use the Newman house to study, socialize and pray.

Diocesan Reorganization (2024)
On May 20, 2024, the Diocese of Peoria — led by Bishop Louis Tylka — announced a sweeping restructuring plan citing 49% fewer people in parishes over the last decade, fewer priests, and tighter resources. The diocese's 156 parishes will be consolidated into 75. St. Luke (Eureka) is among those slated to merge with St. Mary (Metamora) and St. Joseph (Roanoke). The changes officially began July 1, 2024, with full implementation expected over three years.
