About St. Lucy. St. Luke the Evangelist Parish. · Retsof, New York

St. Luke the Evangelist is a multi-site Catholic parish in the Diocese of Rochester, serving western Livingston County, New York. The Retsof worship site is St. Lucy Church, a mission church located at 2770 Retsof Avenue, where the Saturday Vigil Mass is celebrated at 4:00 PM and confessions are heard Saturday afternoons. St. Luke's was formed on July 1, 2006 by combining five historic parishes — St. Mary's (Geneseo), St. Patrick's (Mount Morris), Holy Angels (Nunda), St. Thomas Aquinas (Leicester, now St. Juan Diego Community), and St. Lucy's (Retsof) — so that the small rural communities of the region could continue to share priests and resources. Today the parish is led by Fr. Daniel L. White as Parochial Administrator, with Fr. Hoan Dinh serving as Parochial Vicar, and a lay staff including a Faith Formation Pastoral Minister and a Cemetery Manager.

Why belong here

St. Luke the Evangelist is a welcoming, multi-site Catholic community rooted in the small farming villages of western Livingston County — a place where five former parishes have pooled their gifts to keep Mass, confession, and the sacraments available in every town. At the Retsof site (St. Lucy Church), parishioners encounter an intimate Saturday Vigil Mass at 4:00 PM with confession beforehand, while the broader parish offers a strong Faith Formation program, a dedicated Music Ministry and choir, RCIA for adults entering the Church, Eucharistic Adoration, a Pro-Life Rosary, and fellowship opportunities through the Men's Group, Women's Group, and Monday Night Prayer Group. With an active Pastoral and Finance Council and dozens of lay ministries, there is room for anyone who wants to use their time, talent, or treasure in service to their neighbors.

Parish History and Heritage

Catholic ministry in the region goes back at least to the 1830s, when traveling priests arrived by horse and buggy to celebrate Mass for scattered farming communities; individual parishes were established during the second half of the 19th century. The parish website hosts a detailed history compiled by parishioners Theresa Gall and Kathy Trainor titled "St. Luke the Evangelist Parish Community, 2006–2019: A Historical Overview," documenting the priests, religious sisters, deacons, and lay leaders who shaped each predecessor parish.
