Parish History
St. Louis King of France Parish was established June 21, 1947 in Metairie, with Fr. Patrick Cunningham as its founding pastor. Its Catholic school opened in 1953 under Msgr. Marion Reid, eventually growing to nearly 1,500 students before the territory was shared with St. Angela Merici Parish. The Lorio Center was added in 1990. Over the decades the parish has been led by Msgr. Joseph Lorio, Fr. Burnick Terrebonne, Fr. Hoang Tuong, Fr. Mark S. Raphael, Ph.D. (2017–2025), and most recently Fr. Colm Cahill (effective July 1, 2025).

Baptisms
Baptisms at St. Louis King of France are celebrated on the 3rd Saturday of each month, immediately following the 4:00 PM Vigil Mass. Ceremonies are performed by the pastor, Rev. Colm Cahill, or by Deacon Glen Casanova. Parents (or legal guardians) should contact Becky at the Rectory (504-834-9977) at least three weeks before the desired date; a copy of the child's Birth Certificate and confirmation in good standing for godparents are required. Families living outside the parish boundaries must obtain permission from their home parish.

Grief Support for Widows & Widowers (NAIM)
Through NAIM — a Catholic self-help organization — the parish offers bereaved spouses emotional, spiritual, and social support via regular monthly meetings, socials, and religious activities. St. Louis King of France Catholic School
Founded in 1953 with 40 students, the parish school has grown into a co-educational Blue Ribbon School of Excellence accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Today it serves students from a 6-week-old nursery ('Little Crusaders') through seventh grade, with a curriculum that includes Spanish, computer science, physical education, library, art, speech, debate, and music (including a piano lab).
