Founded in 1871 in Sandoval, a small Marion County village in south-central Illinois, St. Lawrence is among the older Catholic parishes served by the Diocese of Belleville. Its sacramental registers — covering baptisms, confirmations, marriages, and deaths — have been preserved from the late 19th century and are part of the Illinois, Diocese of Belleville, Catholic Parish Records, 1695–1956, archived through FamilySearch. Today the parish continues its life of worship through a partnered-parish arrangement that links it with sister communities in Centralia, Marydale, and Carlyle.
