Parish History
Bishop William T. Brady purchased ten acres of Hilltop land in 1955 for what would become St. Lambert. Originally a mission of St. Therese Parish, the new parish was established on All Saints Day, 1958, by Bishop Lambert Hoch and named for his patron, St. Lambert of Maastricht, a 7th-century bishop. About 50 people attended the first Mass; the founding priest, Father Casimir Mocium, was a carpenter who, with his brother and parishioners, built the original rectory and convent across 16th Street. The first school opened in September 1959, and the present church and four classrooms were consecrated by Bishop Hoch on June 12, 1966. The original worship building had come from the WWII-era Sioux Falls Air Base and was later gifted to St. Lambert by St. Mary Parish.
