St. Ladislas Church is a Roman Catholic parish located at 2345 Bassett Road in Westlake, Ohio, serving the western suburbs of Cleveland in the Diocese of Cleveland. History of St. Ladislas Parish
St. Ladislas was established in 1885 in Cleveland as the first Diocese of Cleveland parish for the city's Slovak Catholics, with Father Stephan Furdek offering services at St. Joseph's Church on Woodland Avenue. A church was built near East 92nd and Holton and consecrated by Bishop Richard Gilmour in December 1889. The Cleveland parish grew rapidly, gave rise to St. Martin of Tours in 1894, and built a larger church in 1906 (designed by Emile Uhlrich) under Father John Svozil. On August 8, 1970, a fire destroyed the Cleveland church building. Rather than rebuild on the same site, diocesan officials relocated the parish to Westlake, where land was purchased on Bassett Road. The new territorial parish was formally established on August 15, 1973, with about 500 founding families drawn from four neighboring parishes. The parish now celebrates over fifty years in Westlake, and in August 2023 it marked both that anniversary and the installation of its third pastor.

Notable Features and Heritage
The parish treasures its link to Cleveland's original Slovak Catholic community. A Marian stained-glass window from the old Cleveland church — donated by an old parishioner and saved from the August 1970 fire — was reinstalled in the Westlake building. A parish center (Cullen Hall) was added in 1992, the church interior was renovated in 2004, and a parish office wing followed in 2007.
