Why belong here

St. Kathryn's offers the warmth of a small rural parish with the resources of a four-church area Catholic community. Weekenders can worship at the Saturday 6:00 p.m. Mass, with confession and Eucharistic Adoration built into the same visit. Families are supported by a Family Faith Formation program for 10th and 11th graders, and the parish gathers throughout the year for a Spring Salad Luncheon, the St. Kateri Feast Day celebration in July, a Fall Festival in September, a Craft and Bake Sale before Thanksgiving, and an Advent Social — making it an easy parish to belong to and plug into.

About St. Kathryn's

St. Kathryn's is a small Catholic parish in Ogilvie, Minnesota, named in 1946 for Blessed Kateri (Kathryn) Tekakwitha, the Lily of the Mohawks. It serves the rural communities of Ogilvie and surrounding Kanabec County. The parish is part of the Diocese of St. Cloud and, since 2023, belongs to the consolidated St. Joseph, Pillar of Families Parish (formerly the Four Pillars in Faith Area Catholic Community) along with St. Louis Bertrand in Foreston, St. Mary's in Milaca, and St. Mary's in Mora.

Parish History

Established in 1946 by Bishop Peter Bartholome of the Diocese of St. Cloud in honor of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha. The parish was chosen as the diocesan site for St. Kateri's 2012 canonization celebration, with Bishop John Kinney celebrating Mass and blessing a stained-glass window of Kateri made by Sally Young of Wahkon. In July 2023 St. Kathryn's joined with its three sister parishes to form the consolidated St. Joseph, Pillar of Families Parish while retaining its individual worship site.

  • Founded 1946
  • Patron chosen by Bishop Peter Bartholome in honor of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha
  • October 21, 2012 — Diocesan canonization celebration hosted at St. Kathryn's
  • Stained-glass window of St. Kateri installed October 17, 2012
  • 2023 — consolidation as St. Joseph, Pillar of Families Parish

Faith Formation and Religious Education

St. Kathryn's Family Faith Formation program, led by Mary Heins, serves older youth (10th and 11th grades) from St. Kathryn's parish and, together with neighboring parishes, offers OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) for those seeking baptism, Christian initiation, or Confirmation. The parish recommends that baptism for a first child be scheduled at least two months in advance and that a pre-baptismal course be taken.

  • Adult Faith Formation and OCIA (inquiry sessions held weekly; contact Lee Ann King at 320-406-2425)
  • Pre-baptismal course for first-time parents
