History
St. Jude the Apostle traces its roots to a mission church founded by Msgr. Francis J. Desmond during his pastorate at St. Edmond’s, Rehoboth Beach, beginning in 1952; he established St. Jude’s Church at Five Points, Lewes, to serve the growing Catholic population of the area. The mission later became St. Jude The Apostle Parish, splitting from St. Edmond’s in 2002 to become an independent parish in the Diocese of Wilmington. Today it serves Lewes and the surrounding beach communities from 152 Tulip Drive as part of the Diocese of Wilmington’s Ocean Deanery.
