Founded in 1978 to serve the growing Catholic community of east King County, the parish worships at its dedicated church on 166th Avenue NE and is now led as one parish family with Holy Innocents in Duvall and St. Anthony Mission in Carnation under the Archdiocese's Partners in the Gospel initiative. Our History
The story of St. Jude Catholic Church begins in the mid-1970s, when the rural community of Redmond began sprouting housing developments and retail shops and local Catholics found themselves driving to Mass in Kirkland, Issaquah, Bellevue, and Bothell. The Archdiocese of Seattle had been planning ahead: it had purchased the present site on 166th Avenue NE, waiting for the day when Redmond's Catholic population could sustain a parish of its own. In 1977, four Redmond Catholics — Jim Daily, Florence Favollita, Gert Pitman, and Ed Cade — met with the Archdiocesan Building Commission and Archbishop Hunthausen to let him know that day had arrived. He was encouraging, and Fr. Jerry Lovett was appointed the parish's first pastor, going on to serve 25 years. The name "St. Jude" came from a guild that had been attached to Holy Family Parish in Kirkland; when parishioners were asked to suggest a name, that was the option that received the most support. The parish's first Mass was celebrated in the cafeteria of Redmond Middle School on September 16, 1978, at 5:00 PM. About 250 people attended that first liturgy, and roughly 1,000 people from just over 300 families came to the three celebrations that opening weekend. Fundraising began in 1979, groundbreaking in 1980, and on October 25, 1981, Archbishop Hunthausen dedicated the new church and altar, assisted by Abbot Adrian of St. Martin's Abbey. That same year the parish began its annual Advent "Giving Tree" outreach to neighbors in the greater Seattle area — a tradition that continues to mark the character of St. Jude Catholic Church. In 2024 the parish entered Partners in the Gospel as part of "Parish Family 25" with Holy Innocents in Duvall and St. Anthony Mission in Carnation.

Faith Formation
The parish's Family Faith Formation program is designed to build up strong Catholic families in which children learn the joys of following Jesus Christ and the truths of the Catholic faith through the witness of their parents. Because parents have the primary responsibility for educating their children in the faith, all parents are asked to volunteer in some capacity. Week by week, students are challenged to grow in knowledge of Scripture and Catholic tradition, connect faith with their lived experience, and practice the skills of discipleship.

Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) and Adult Confirmation
The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults — formerly known as RCIA — is a communal process for the formal initiation of new members into the Catholic Church, returning to the formation practices of the earliest members of the Church in the first and second centuries. There is also a separate initiation process for children over the age of 7 who are not yet baptized. Adult Confirmation preparation takes place annually in the fall, with the Sacrament typically celebrated in January or February at the parish. The parish also has a dedicated ministry for Returning Catholics who may have left the Church or stopped participating in its sacramental life. Contact Deacon Reuben for OCIA involvement.

Teen Ministry (Grades 7–12)
Designed to shape the spiritual growth and emotional resilience of young people, Teen Ministry encourages participants to live the Gospel message of Jesus Christ and to embody the values of faith, hope, and love. Through lively discussions, videos, and activities, teens deepen both their personal spirituality and their friendships with peers. The group meets two to three times a month on Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 PM in the parish hall; dinner and desserts are provided, and all teens in grades 7–12 are welcome. Confirmation preparation runs alongside this ministry and is open to any youth in grade 7 or above.

Adult Faith Groups and Prayer
St. Jude hosts several ongoing small groups for adults seeking fellowship and growth in prayer. Brothers in Christ is the men's prayer group, meeting every Friday morning at 7:00 AM for light refreshment, fellowship, and prayer in Lovett Hall. Women of Faith is the women's prayer group, meeting every Monday at 10:00 AM in Lovett Hall. The Rosary Cenacle meets Thursdays at 1 PM in the church for recitation of the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet; the Rosary is also recited each morning after daily Mass (and on Fridays before Mass at 8:30 AM).

Outreach and Service
Service to those in need is a core part of parish life at St. Jude. The local conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul — a Catholic lay organization that assists the needy and suffering of the community — meets monthly at the parish. The Knights of Columbus provide fraternal and service support to the parish community. Each Advent, the parish hosts the Giving Tree, a tradition begun the same year the church was dedicated, spreading joy to many across the greater Seattle area.

Sacraments
St. Jude celebrates all seven sacraments. Baptism for infants is scheduled monthly with required parent/godparent preparation classes; adults and children age 7 and older are initiated through the OCIA process, with baptisms typically celebrated at the Easter Vigil. First Reconciliation and First Eucharist are prepared through Family Faith Formation in grades 2–3 or grades 4–6. Confirmation preparation is offered for youth in grade 7 and above, and annually in the fall for adults. Reconciliation is heard Wednesday mornings, Saturday afternoons, Fridays during Lent, and at the twice-yearly Penance Services. Marriage preparation typically requires a twelve-month period, though couples may begin scheduling 6–10 months in advance by meeting with Fr. Johnson. Anointing of the Sick is arranged through the parish office during business hours; outside hours, the Eastside Pastoral Care priest on call can be reached at 206-748-1500. A communal Anointing celebration is held twice yearly.

Parish Family 25 and Partners in the Gospel
In 2024 St. Jude was placed, together with Holy Innocents in Duvall (98019) and St. Anthony Mission in Carnation (98014), into "Parish Family 25" under the leadership of one pastor through Partners in the Gospel, the Archdiocese of Seattle's strategic pastoral planning process. The arrangement allows the three faith communities to share clergy and resources while continuing to serve their distinct local communities across the Eastside Deanery.
