About St. Jude · Laredo, Texas

St. Jude Church is a bilingual Catholic parish located in north Laredo, Texas, serving the growing west side of the city from its campus at 2031 Lowry Road. Part of the Diocese of Laredo — established in 2000 when this region was separated from the Diocese of Corpus Christi — the parish was originally erected in 1984 by Bishop René H. Gracida, then Bishop of Corpus Christi. Today it is led by Very Rev. Francisco Quiroz (Pastor) and Rev. Heleodoro Lozano (Parochial Vicar), with deacons Hugo Lozano and David Gonzalez assisting. The parish celebrates Mass in both English and Spanish throughout the week, runs an extensive network of lay ministries, and welcomes new families to register at the parish office.

Why belong here

St. Jude offers one of the most active lay-ministry networks in the Diocese of Laredo, with more than a dozen Spanish- and English-language groups — Knights of Columbus (Caballeros de Colón), Guadalupanos, Apostoles de Fatima, Neocatecumenos, Comisiones de Evangelización, Lectores, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Altar Servers, Nocturnal Adoration, CCD Religious Education, a Youth Group, and more. Daily Mass in both languages, Sunday Mass six times a week (in English at 6:30 PM and in Spanish at 8:00 AM, 12:00 PM, plus weekend Saturday evening vigil), combined with a 6:20 PM weekday Rosary, accessible confessions before every Mass, and bilingual baptism and marriage prep make this an easy parish to call home for a bilingual family on the north side of Laredo.

History of St. Jude Parish

St. Jude Church was erected in 1984 by Bishop René H. Gracida, the Fifth Bishop of Corpus Christi, as part of the Church's response to the rapidly growing Catholic population on Laredo's west side. Its creation, alongside Holy Family Parish, was the same wave of growth that brought the Laredo Pastoral Center into existence in 1985 and led Bishop Gracida to formally erect the Western Vicariate of the Diocese of Corpus Christi on January 25, 1990 — explicitly in anticipation of a new diocese for the region. That new diocese, the Diocese of Laredo, was created by Pope John Paul II on July 3, 2000 and formally installed on August 9, 2000, with Auxiliary Bishop James A. Tamayo of Galveston-Houston named as its first bishop at a ceremony at the Laredo Civic Center attended by 25 bishops, 200+ priests, 50 deacons and 3,000 faithful. St. Jude became one of the diocese's founding parishes, continuing its bilingual ministry to this day from its 2031 Lowry Road campus.

  • Erected 1984 by Bishop René H. Gracida
  • Became a founding parish of the Diocese of Laredo upon its erection in 2000
