History
Catholic life in Cowiche goes back more than six decades. According to the Diocese of Yakima's published historical timeline, St. Peter's in Cowiche became a parish in 1959, just eight years after the diocese itself was created. In 1962, St. Peter the Apostle Seminary was opened in Cowiche to train priests for the young diocese. The parish now known as St. Juan Diego continues that legacy as a small, family-sized bilingual Catholic community on Summitview Road, with a Thursday evening devotional schedule that brings together Adoration, Confession, Benediction and Mass.
