History
St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Parish was established in 1961 after area faithful petitioned Bishop Charles H. Helmsing for a parish closer than Springfield. The Stanley Chudomelka family donated 10 acres north of Ozark in 1959, construction began in 1960, and Cardinal Joseph Ritter dedicated the church on May 7, 1961—the first Cardinal visit to Southwest Missouri. Fr. Thomas Allen was appointed pastor and added “the Worker” to the name. The parish added an education building in 1972, received its first resident pastor in 1977, dedicated a larger church in 1991, and opened a new Parish Center in 2013.
