Why belong here

St. Joseph Reynolds offers a close-knit rural Catholic community in the only Catholic parish in White County, with a deeply rooted history stretching back to 1866. Parishioners gather for a unique monthly rhythm: a full day of Eucharistic Adoration on the Third Friday beginning at 9:00 AM, followed by Mass at 5:30 PM and a parish pitch-in dinner that reflects the family's-table spirit of the community. History of the Parish

The Catholic faith arrived in Reynolds with German immigrant families in the 19th century. Early Masses were celebrated at the home of Michael Vogel. Rev. Joseph Stephan tended the small flock, and in 1866 Rev. J. A. Winter oversaw construction of a 150-seat frame church. A larger 475-seat brick church was built in 1876 and remains the parish's home. A parsonage followed in 1899, a school addition in 1909, and a new parish cemetery in 1912.

  • 1866: first frame church built (150 seats)
  • 1876: brick church built (475 seats, $6,000)
  • 1899: brick parsonage built under Rev. John Kubacki
  • 1909: school addition added to the church
  • 1912: new parish cemetery opened about two miles from town
  • Membership of 370 souls reported under Rev. F. J. Koch (1908 onward)
