Our Church History
St. Augustine Parish was established in 1836 as Stallostown Mission, named after the German settlement founded in 1832. The brick nave was built in 1848, twin Gothic-style towers added in 1874, and a Romanesque revival sanctuary completed in 1901. Major interior renovations occurred in 1957–1963. The steeples, 190 feet tall, were designed by master builder Joann Anton Goehr, a parishioner, and the church’s windows reflect its German heritage.
Sacraments
The seven sacraments are Baptism, First Communion, Reconciliation, Confirmation, Marriage, Anointing of the Sick, and Holy Orders. Receiving one of the seven sacraments is a life-changing moment where one truly experiences God’s salvation and Christ’s sacrifice. Growing in faith doesn’t only happen through the sacraments, it happens through daily prayer and devotion.
