History & Establishment

St. Joseph Marello Parish was established on January 1, 2004, to serve the Granite Bay area of Placer County. A 2009 environmental document records that the parish developed a 12.8-acre site on Auburn Folsom Road in phases, with the eventual church building dedicated on October 22, 2011. The parish has been entrusted to the Oblates of St. Joseph, the congregation founded in Asti, Italy, in 1878 by Saint Joseph Marello, who was canonized in 2001.

Saint Joseph Marello & the Oblates of St. Joseph

Saint Joseph Marello (Giuseppe Marello, 1844–1895) was an Italian priest who founded the 'Company of Saint Joseph' in Asti on March 14, 1878, later renamed the Oblates of St. Joseph. He was named Bishop of Acqui in 1889 and died in 1895 at age 50. Pope John Paul II beatified him on September 26, 1993, in Asti, and canonized him on November 25, 2001, in Saint Peter's Square. The Oblates' charism emphasizes spreading devotion to St. Joseph, training the young, and assisting local bishops and parishes.

Faith Formation & Sacramental Preparation

The parish is committed to bringing God's grace through the Sacraments and has age-appropriate preparation programs. Children in grades K–6 enroll in the Family Faith Formation Program (contact Katerina Austin at [email protected] or 916-872-1030). Baptism preparation is offered for children in 1st–5th grade and in 7th–8th grade, and adults prepare through the RCIA. RCIA sessions begin weekly in early Fall and conclude in late May, with the Sacraments of Initiation received at the Easter Vigil; contact Bob Porter.
