About St. Joseph (Catholic Communities of Eastern Broome) · Deposit, New York

St. Joseph's Church in Deposit, New York, is one of four parishes that together form the Catholic Communities of Eastern Broome, a parish cluster in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse. Founded in 1851, the Deposit church stands at 98 Second Street and shares worship life with St. Joseph's in Sanitaria Springs, Our Lady of Lourdes in Windsor, and St. Mary's in Kirkwood. Because the cluster has no resident priest, it is led day-to-day by a Parish Life Director, Barbara Kane, with sacramental ministry provided by retired priests (and, as of July 1, 2025, a Parochial Vicar from the Dominican Friars, Rev. Peter T. Amaya-Akpala, OP). The parish offers Sunday Mass at 11:00 AM, weekly Tuesday adoration, and a strong tradition of coffee-hour fellowship after Mass.

Why belong here

St. Joseph's Deposit is a small, friendly parish where Sunday Mass at 11:00 AM is followed by a coffee-and-dessert hour in the church hall — a perfect setting for newcomers to be welcomed and get to know fellow parishioners. The community gathers weekly for Tuesday silent adoration from noon to 1:00 PM and on the first Wednesday of each month for a 5:00 PM Holy Hour for Vocations and the needs of the cluster. As part of the four-parish Catholic Communities of Eastern Broome, members benefit from shared faith formation, sacramental preparation, and pastoral care for the sick coordinated by Parish Life Director Barbara Kane.
