History
St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with roots dating back to 1919, has a rich history intertwined with the growth of the community. The parish’s inaugural church traces its origins to 1873 when it served as the Valley School Building before becoming the Baptist church. In 1919, John Zeis, Sr. acquired this historic structure, relocating it to Alexander Street and Park Avenue, where is was established as the St. John Catholic Church. A significant chapter in the church’s history unfolded in 1965 when ground was broken for a new church at its present location. This marked the beginning of a new era, setting the stage for the spiritual home that stands today. In 1984, the church expanded with the addition of a social hall and religious education class-rooms. In 2007, further enhancements were made, including additions and updates to the social hall, entryway and worship space. Continuing the tradition of growth and improvement, groundbreaking ceremonies in 2020 heralded the latest addition to the church. These ongoing efforts reflect the commitment of St. John’s Catholic Church to serving its congregation and community, ensuring a welcoming space for worship, fellowship, and spiritual growth.
