St. John the Evangelist Parish in Carmichael, California, was established in 1960 to serve the growing Catholic community in the area. The parish began in a store in the Foothill Farm neighborhood and later moved to its current location on 10 acres at Hackberry and Locust. It has since grown into a vibrant community with a school, church, and active ministries. The parish is known for its strong emphasis on faith formation, sacramental life, and outreach, with a mission to 'radiate the love of Christ so that all may be fully alive in Him.'

Parish History

St. John the Evangelist Parish was established in 1960 by Bishop Joseph McGucken to serve the growing Catholic community in Carmichael. The first pastor, Father James Kenny, oversaw the founding of the parish and school, with support from the Sisters of Mercy from Ireland. The current church was dedicated in 1987, and a community center named the Tralee Center was completed in 2005. The parish celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2010.

Staff

The parish is led by Fr. Colin Wen, who was appointed pastor in October 2025. Deacons Keith Johnson and Jack Wilson serve the community, along with staff including Office Manager Irene Galdamez, Director of Religious Education Caeli Hall, School Principal Kristen Beck, and Music Director Barbara Di Regolo.
