History of the Parish
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church was founded in 1881, the same era that saw many small Catholic communities established across the rural counties of eastern Kansas. The parish has served the farming families of Greeley and the surrounding townships for more than 140 years. Its baptismal register, covering 1888 to 1958, is now part of the Baptismal Record Collection held by the Anderson County Historical Society and is open to researchers at the Anderson County Historical Museum in Garnett.
