History of St. Mary’s
The Diocese of Rochester was established in 1868. St. Mary’s was organized in August 1868, with Rev. Thomas A. Maher as the first pastor. The church was built on the Button property as a temporary wooden structure. Dr. Miles J. Loughlin, the second pastor, oversaw the construction of a stone church and founded the parish school. He died in 1874 after years of exhausting labor. Rev. William Mulheron succeeded him and worked for 31 years to eliminate debt and improve church facilities.

Donahue, New Evangelization Coordinator; Diane Gove, Pastoral Minister & Wedding Coordinator; and other lay staff including the Finance Director, Music Director, Archivist, and Funeral Preparations coordinator.
